Hunting at Lake Georgetown

 

The 1200-acre Hunt Hollow Wildlife Management area managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Georgetown is available for hunting by holders of small game and archery-only hunting permits. In addition, Archery-Only areas are available to archery permit holders. All hunting is closed from the last day of February to the beginning of dove season. All hunting except archery is closed during the archery season for deer set by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). All persons eligible to hunt within the State of Texas except employees of the Capital Regional Project Office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and their family members are eligible to apply for permits.

Small Game Hunting

The Small Game Permit allows the holder to hunt Dove and Waterfowl during the season set by TPWD, and Rabbit and Squirrel except during the TPWD archery season for deer. Small game hunting is permitted only in the General Hunting Area. Hunting quail, turkey, raccoons, bobcats, foxes, and coyotes is prohibited at this time. Hunters must have proof of hunter education and a 2013-2014 TPWD hunting license. For more information on Small Game Permits please read the Lake Georgetown Hunting Policy. Small game permits will begin issue the last week of August and remain valid through February 28, 2014. The Lake Georgetown Project Office will only issue 50 small game permits each season. Small game hunting is not allowed September 28, 2013 - November 2, 2013.

Applications for the 2013-2014 season will be available starting May 6, 2013 at the Lake Georgetown Project Office from 8:15 a.m.  – 4:00 p.m. Payments for the application fee will be made at the park gate houses (Cedar Breaks Park, Jim Hogg Park, and Russell Park) Monday – Thursday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm with credit card only. Cash and checks will not be accepted. Our office will no longer take payments for the applications and permits. Individuals must go to the gate house, pay the $25 application fee by credit card, and bring the receipt to the office to fill out the 2013-2014 application. Applications will be accepted until July 3, 2013 at 4:00 PM.

Hunters drawn will be notified by letters and emails during the first week of August. Hunters drawn for a 2013-2014 archery permit must attend Hunter Orientation on TBA (tentatively August 17, 2013). The orientation is mandatory, no exceptions. Before attending orientation, hunters must obtain an archery proficiency test, hunter education certification (unless exempt by State of Texas regulations), a 2013-2014 TPWD hunting license, and a receipt for $90 from one of the three gate houses. If you do not have one of the four items you will not be issued a permit during orientation. Hunters may not set up stands/feeders until permits are issued.

No refunds will be given for failure to provide one of the nessacary documents:

1.       Proficiency Test with a passing score.

2.       Hunters Education Certification

3.       2013-2014 TPWD Hunting License

4.       Receipt for $90.00 from park gate house.
